Respect

Everyone wants the same thing

To be treated with the kindness & respect that we all want

respect is a 2 way street

You don’t have to be a Buddhist to know that everyone wants love & compassion

From the moment we are born a helpless marshmallow soft infant

to the point we are hardened disabled senior citizens

in pain waiting for our inevitable death

Everyone we know will someday be suffering

Everyone we know will someday die

Life is too short to increase the pain of life – to engage in any pointless anger or cruelty

I do hereby personally pledge to abide by the ancient American boy scout laws:

I pledge to be trustworthy, loyal & helpful 

I pledge to be friendly, courteous & kind

I pledge to be obedient, cheerful & thrifty 

I pledge to be brave, clean & reverent

up to a certain point, of course

everyone gets a little crazy now & then

& I want to take a new psychedelic tantrik Woodstock scout oath

for all the poets, artists, musicians & political activists that I know

for all my friends & for my enemies who are my greatest teachers:

On my honor I pledge I will do my best to be the best person I can be,

To do my duty to help planet Earth

   & all sentient beings in need of understanding at all times,

To keep myself healthy, mentally awake & aware

& to be morally groovy

I know not everyone agrees with us hippie peace freaks

just look at Michelle Bachman, Newt Gingrich, Donald Trump

But negativity only breeds more negativity

Who will be big enough to change the world

by changing ourselves?
