CLIFF FYMAN
Bedrock Mortar
old pants hang from nail in wall
these days are full
even while they are being emptied
this seclusion from people
becomes inclusion of everything
seen, unseen and remembered
I
watch variations of sunlight
into night
and
the alterations of my moods: joy
grief, encouragement, doubt, eagerness, love,
death, worry, resolve
Ponderosa
pine, oak, cedar
madrone, manzanita
racoons, bees, squirrels, mice
deer. Many deer
so tame they feed at the door,
lie on ground and rest
you walk right by them.
A sweet variety of birds.
Blue
jays, robin, an Oregon bird, quail
to name a few.
When
it rains deer cluster
under a bush for protection
eyeball the area
and poke their ears up
wider
and wider
because it seems the rain makes it difficult
to hear people approaching
