Criteria

If you wish honour
on Remembrance Day,
there is only one litmus
test: your body must be
certified as official,
government dead.

If you had fought
for some other group
than the State,
rest assured    
your gravestone
will be pulverized

and mixed with water
to make new bricks
to build a stupa
in the  town which saw
you first pick up
a hand grenade,

after the school
exams before the war
where you failed
to meet the new
higher standard
for boys of your race.
